One weekend I realized that I had blown through disposable makeup remover cloths at a rate that was a bit disturbing.

I had to admit that I was addicted to the EASE of use and quick work they make of my makeup at the end of a long day, but I could not shake my thinking around how much waste 1 person (me) was making – just to remove my makeup!

Being an avid yarn enthusiast, I decided to make an alternative. I had a few GIFTING opportunities coming up as well, so my motivation was STRONG!

I came up with a simple pattern which I will share below.

These are terrific gifts by themselves, or paired with your favorite bottle or jar of face cleanser. Here’s my pattern – I hope you enjoy making (& gifting) these as much as I did!

Crocheted cotton face rounds
(w/ matching bag)

Supplies/tools:

Crochet hooks: H (rounds); K (bag)

1 ball of cotton yarn – I used Lily Sugar and Cream yarn

Scissors

Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

SC: single crochet (US terms)
SL ST: slip stitch
CH: chain
SK: skip

Cosmetic Rounds:

Begin with a MAGIC CIRCLE

With a crochet hook (H), CH 1 and make 6 SC into center of ring.

Join round with a SL ST to CH1 stitch (6 sts)

Round 2: CH 1, then 2 SC in each stitch around (12 sts). Join round with SL ST to CH 1 (do this at the end of each round)

Round 3: CH 1. Make 1 SC in 1st stitch and 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around (18 sts)

Round 4: CH 1. Make 1 SC in next 2 sts and 2 SC in 3rd stitch. Repeat around (24 sts)

Tie off and weave in ends. Make as many as you desire! I usually make at least 6 when giving as a gift.

Laundry Bag for Cosmetic Face Rounds

With a crochet hook (K), CH 15 and turn.

Round 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook; continue with a SC in each ST until last stitch; make 3 SC in last stitch and turn to continue adding a SC to the bottom of the original chain, opposite the SC row you just made. End with 3 SC in last stitch of the round. SL ST to beginning CH stitch (31 sts). NOTE: this pattern is not precise, so you have some leeway on the actual count. Odd counts are best (29 or 31) but once you move into Round 4 and beyond, you can make up the difference. Just enjoy the process (no stress!) 😊

Round 2: CH 1. SC around in each stitch. End with a SL ST to CH 1 stitch. Mark END of round (marker or piece of yarn).

Round 3: CH 4, SK 1 stitch, SC in next stitch *(CH 3, SK 1 stitch, SC in next stitch)*
Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SL ST to bottom of CH 4. Move row marker.

Round 4: CH 4. SC in chain 3 space. *(CH 3, SC in chain 3 space)* Continue repeat between * and * for this round AND for Round 5 (continuous rounds from here to end).

NOTE: although rounds are continuous, move marker each round to keep from adding too many stitches.

Rounds 6 – 18: CH 4. SL ST in chain 3 space. *(CH 3, SL ST in chain 3 space)*.

Repeat from * to * around.
Join with a SL ST to bottom of CH 4. Move row marker with each row.

Round 19: SL ST to last chain 3 space from Round 18.
CH 1. SC in same space as SL ST/CH 1.

CH 1, *(2 SC in next chain 3 space, CH 1)* Repeat between * and * around.

End with a SC in beginning chain 3 space (where you began the round with a CH 1 and SC)

SL ST to beginning CH 1 and tie off.

Weave in end.

Bag tie

Using a size H crochet hook, chain 75. Knot each end and trim yarn ends. Weave through 2nd row from top, alternating through the chain 3 spaces.

Enjoy for yourself or wrap up and give as a gift!
