My Emotional Support Chicken (ESC)

I’ve officially joined in the ESC craze, and finished my first hen. “Fluffy Freda” – pictured above – helped me learn the pattern, think about how I might want to adjust the pattern, and perhaps most importantly; fall in love with these chickens!

My interest in the many benefits of knitting and crocheting have taught me about the importance of engaging in projects just for fun – whether they be in yarn or any other medium.

The ESC concept took off recently but as I understand the lore, it was resurrected based on a previous pattern created by someone who has since passed away. The Knitting Tree offers the pattern for $6.50 (USD) and gives credit to the original artist. They also offer a video tutorial that I found to be extremely helpful.

I have gleaned much joy in the process of making Fluffy Freda, and I get a lot of smiles (& giggles!) from the Facebook group dedicated to these hens. It’s a lot of fun.

Sometimes we just need to do something that makes us smile, for no other reason than that’s what we want to do. Life gets busy at times, and the years fly by more quickly than we realize when we are knee-deep in careers, kids, and life. I’m more aware of the passing of time lately, and am intentionally taking time to do fun things, including things that add some silliness and joy to my days.

I highly recommend it for all!
