A mini craft

Sometimes being “crafty” can be short, sweet and simple. Tonight I was running a few errands after work and stopped by the local “dollar” store to see if I could find a small bottle for an idea I had earlier in the day: a DIY reed scent diffuser.

The reason I chose a DIY option was that the last one I purchased was priced at $50. While I enjoyed its scent, I was sure that I could come close to the same experience for a lot less.

I found a bottle, grabbed some bamboo skewers, a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and headed home. Like many women my age, I have more essential oils than I would like to admit.

I didn’t care for the decoration on the bottle so I replaced it with a sheer pink ribbon and a purple sparkle star button, but will find another use for the metal leaf and recycle it into some other craft.

My DIY mix was a carrier oil (I used fractionated coconut oil), isopropyl alcohol, and essential oils. I used a “proprietary blend” (meaning I don’t remember the ratios) of Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Sandalwood, and Patchouli. I think I also used a little Cardamom.

It smells nice!

I enjoyed playing around with the mixture of oil, alcohol, and scents and will be making some refill scents to use when this batch evaporates.

This project didn’t involve any fabric or yarn, but I was still able to “stash bust” from my essential oils collection.

My sewing, knitting and crocheting bring a lot of joy into my life, but tonight, I was reminded that sometimes a simple, 10-minute crafty project can bring a bit of joy, too!
