In the spooky spirit

Tonight I made my (1st) Halloween cross-body bag following the pattern I have used to make several other bags.

Since I’ve made multiple variations of it, this bag went together fairly quickly. Here are a few of my earlier iterations:

I have also started to add charms to the zipper pulls as some added glitz or whimsy, such as these:

I’ve had so much fun finding fabric for these bags, and I often find at least some of it in my stash. At other times, it may come from another sewing enthusiast, as I noted in my previous blog post. I also occasionally acquire fabric from thrift stores or remnants from Michaels, or from local fabric or quilt shops.

Tonight’s seasonal sewing project was a combination of fabrics. The featured print was from a fat quarter that my sister sent me, titled “Ghouls Night Out”. The black fabric with the sliver moons on it (along with tiny stars) was left over from another bag project, pictured below. I made it to hold my collection of Tarot cards – the perfect print for the task!

I didn’t have enough of either the Ghouls or Moons prints to line the bag, so I went back to my trusty stash and found a perfect purple print that I had picked up at our local Creative Reuse (craft thrift) store a few months back.

Upon closer examination, I realized that the print was a pattern of owls (can you see them?). Owls are great companions for a Halloween accessory.

Lastly, the strap is made from a black cotton that I purchased as Joann stores were going out of business, earlier this year.

I’m looking forward to finding a spooky accessory for my new bag, and will be seeing what Michaels has in stock sometime this weekend.

Now, back to finishing my OTHER spooky season project – my Lost Souls crochet shawl, which is almost done!!

Happy October & Spooky Season 🎃 to all!
